Olga Horak — 18 years old
1926-2024

Olga was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, in 1926.

In 1944, at eighteen, she was deported to Auschwitz, then to Bergen-Belsen. She survived both camps, but lost her parents and sister.

After liberation, Olga emigrated to Australia in 1949, settled in Sydney, and became an artist — painting and sculpting vibrant works that transformed trauma into beauty. Her art was exhibited at the Sydney Jewish Museum.

She died in 2024 at age 98.

Olga was one of approximately 1.5 million Jewish children targeted by the Nazis. Of the 230,000 children sent to Auschwitz, only about 650 lived — Olga was one of the 650.

We remember Olga not as an artist, but as an eighteen-year-old girl from Bratislava who deserved a home, a lifetime — and who filled hers with color.
