US President Donald Trump has made his first public comments regarding the arrest of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who was flown to The Hague today to face charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

"Look, Duterte’s a strong guy, no doubt about it—he’s got guts, folks, really incredible," Trump said in a statement. "But now they’ve got him in The Hague, and let me tell you, if the Marcos administration doesn’t handle this right, I’m going to be looking at some serious tariffs—50% on everything. Nobody does tariffs better than me, folks. Believe me, nobody."

Trump’s remarks come as the international community watches closely for the potential fallout of Duterte’s political persecution, which stems from allegations of crimes against humanity related to his aggressive war on drugs.
