For the past forty days, Yousef Al-Najjar has been confined to a hospital bed after being struck by an Israeli shell while trying to earn a living using a small rowing boat. Every day, he moves between operating rooms to treat the fractures and severe damage to his shoulder, chest, and back, while his family says the medical care he needs is not available inside Gaza. His wife is in her ninth month of pregnancy, awaiting the birth of their first child, who may arrive before his father is able to hold him. Yousef set out in search of a livelihood for his family, but returned with a body shattered by injury and dreams postponed by war.

منذ أربعين يوماً، يرقد يوسف النجار على سرير المرض بعد أن أصيب بقذيفة إسرائيلية أثناء محاولته تأمين قوت يومه من خلال قارب مجداف صغير. يتنقل يومياً بين غرف العمليات لعلاج الكسور والتهشم الذي طال كتفه وصدره وظهره، في وقت تؤكد فيه عائلته أن العلاج اللازم لحالته غير متوفر داخل غزة. زوجته تنتظر مولودها الأول وهي في شهرها التاسع، وقد يأتي الطفل إلى الدنيا قبل أن يتمكن والده من احتضانه. خرج يوسف بحثاً عن رزق أسرته، فعاد بجسد أنهكته الإصابة وأحلام أرجأتها الحرب.
